AN EDITOR REMEMBERS.........
Newsletter Five, May 1976

Although Newsletter Five followed the same format as the previous newsletter, it was accompanied by an interview sheet and a glossy photo sheet (neither of which are still available), so people were getting a fair bit for their modest subscription fee - honest. The lack of detail on the pictures in the newsletter was annoying but I'd still no way of screening the shots at a price we could afford. Everything was still on a shoe-string budget but so long as costs were covered we didn't care. We also experimented with offering b/w 10x8 photographic prints which I'd taken at Purple's Liverpool show, printed up at college (again). Bolin's name was still mud too, being blamed for the duff tour almost everywhere. Although the Purple split was not yet known we did report an almighty row back stage after the last Wembley show, along with the first serious reunion rumour. The first of many over the next six years!

Ian GILLAN / Roger GLOVER

German TV, December 1975

The ‘Butterfly Ball’ concert recording is currently being mixed into a soundtrack to go with the film shot during the concert.

Ian Gillan’s LP was completed in early January, and Roger Glover took the tapes to Montreux to mix them from January 17th to 23rd. German TV had a scoop over Christmas, namely the debut of Gillan’s group, with a session they recorded over there in December. The bassist was Roger Glover!

French Tour News

Ian Gillan's delux restaurant got quite a lot of press recently when he ran out of capital to sink into it.

His band, now to be called The Ian Gillan Band, began their first tour on April 14th in Toulouse, France. 13 dates in 14 days, not bad going, including Paris on April 25th. A single from the album is being put out over there to tie in, an album track called 'You Make Me Feel So Good'.
