September 14th, 2002. Birmingham NEC.      Twiddly-Diddly Bits

It's 11.05pm and I've just got in, what an epic night! The other reviews are right, the guys all seemed to be having a ball up there. I'm sorry Steve, I owe you a big apology, I was always a bit of a Blackmore snob, but watching the interaction between you all compared to the indifference of the old days was a revelation. I knew the set list but no-one had mentioned the twiddly-diddly bits...a fantastic repertoire! I wish I could apologise to the whole band for the lack of response from the seated areas, I know we are all knocking on a bit but come on, it's not everyday you see masters at work, or is that play? Anyway I had a great time, I'm all sweaty, my throat is sore and my ears are ringing (did they turn it up at the end?) Just like the old days!! Thankyou!    Nigel Canning Aged 41 and three-quarters and feeling it!

As an amateur (the word means to love what you're doing) keyboard player, I just want to say how much I have been thrilled by Jon's playing down all the years - and how much I want to join the band in their generous welcoming of Don to take his place. The manner in which they did this on Saturday was exemplary. Looking forward to many more nights cheering on my favourite band.. Ian Aged 54 and 3/4

September 15th, 2002. Portsmouth Guildhall.    The Milkman Delivers
What can I say....awesome..... the boys played with style & grace, and Christ did they look like they were having fun...the crowd were really into this show; with Gillan looking on in awe, recalling how over the years the Pompey crowd had supported Deep Purple. As the atmosphere built up I thought the roof was going to be blown off ...as the band played through Perfect Strangers to Highway Star I felt honoured to have witnessed this incarnation of Deep Purple. September 17th, 2002. Plymouth Pavilions.      The Gap Band

There was a gap of about 10 feet between the stage and the front row and on either side of the stage were bouncers ready to 'control' the audience. When a girl ran up to dance at the front and she was pulled away by the bouncers. Rapidly there was this sense of tension building up in the hall. Next thing Ian Gillan,
Roger Glover and Steve Morse jumped off stage into the 'gap' and continued to play from there...

REVIEWS & SCANS
                                                          PRESS REVIEW

September 18th, 2002. Colston Hall, Bristol.      Raging(ly) Good

"Just as things couldn't get better Gillan introduced Bernie Marsden who proceeded to delight and inspire with his duel with Steve Morse before leading into a raging(ly) good Smoke On The Water.
Steve deferred to Bernie for the solo and the audience lapped up every minute!"

"The girl next to
me even threw her knickers on stage (a pair brought along for the occasion,
I hasten to add). She even asked security for permission to throw them!"

September 19th, 2002. The Regent, Ipswich.      Jon Bows Out

It's the day after, and I just had to write and say how fantastic the band were in Ipswich. It was very emotional at the end when Jon stayed on stage on his own to say goodbye..
Ian Bown.

"Jon delivered a stunningly beautiful introduction to When a Blind Man Cries. He gave us a reminder of both the past and the future by making what I think were references not only to the Concerto
but also Pictured Within, as he wove a deeply emotional spell-binding sound picture
which shook me to the core."
