LIVE REVIEW The show was simply fantastisch!! No comparison to the concert in Solingen last year. This time we were not hampered by rain and power failures. The location (Wuppertal town hall) is one of the most beautiful locations to be found. The building was built in 1900 and completely restored in 1995. The venue positively sparkles. Normally there are almost exclusively classical period concerts and theatre performances taking place there. To the Geyers I can only say - no comment!!!. My girlfriend almost fell asleep! Besides, there were also various technical problems (broken cables and broken mic). At 9pm, to large applause from the crowd of 1500, Blackmore's Night took to the stage. The set list was really pleasing, one high point being the marvelous Soldier Of Fortune. Wow!! There were around 50 fans in medieval costumes. The crowd sat fairly still for the first few numbers but starting from Fires at Midnight there was no holding back. The hardcore fans stood directly before the stage and celebrated with Blackmore's Night. Several times Candice and Ritchie came to the edge of the stage, encouraging the audience. At the conclusion of the show the thunderous applause from the crowd spoke volumes for how much they had enjoyed themselves. Unfortunately, the light show was poor. Regularly the spotlights came on too early or went off too late. In addition the colours were altogether too multicolored. Unlike the Solingen show last year, there was a five song encore. The houselights only came back on around 11.30pm. Review: Jens Brauweiler, translated into English by Mark Connolly |
