DAVID COVERDALE
DAVID COVERDALE joined DEEP PURPLE in the summer of 1973 following an
audition. He'd worked in semi-professional groups in the north-east
of England, including THE GOVERNMENT, but had never issued a record.
After DEEP PURPLE split in 1976, COVERDALE recorded two solo albums
in quick succession and his new group WHITESNAKE evolved from these
sessions in 1977.
WHITESNAKE quickly became very successful in Europe, and soon
recruited JON LORD and IAN PAICE, but it was not until the group went
through major line-up changes and recorded the 1987 album that they
matched this success in America when the album went multi-platinum.
WHITESNAKE had several years at the top of the American market, but
their profile faded during the nineties and COVERDALE recorded an
album with former Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page called
COVERDALE / PAGE, as well as a solo album for EMI.
After popular Best
Of albums sold well he put a new line-up of Whitesnake together which
was soon touring the big arenas again, with a comprehensive package
of album reissues and a live DVD and CD in 2006/7.
